Hi Larry, To say I was impressed is an understatement! The fins have an excellent snappy response and the flex is distributed along the fin very nicely. I could really feel the carbon 'doing the work' for me during deep dives. This allowed me to safely reduce the recovery periods needed between dives as well as increase the bottom time during dives. The length of the blade is perfect, some fins can be cumbersome to use and reducing the fins size, as you have done makes a huge difference. Not too long that they are cumbersome, but not too short and still allows very important the sine wave action that is needed in an efficient stereo finning technique. The incredible weight of the fins and and the toe angle both help immensely in reducing muscle fatigue and allows excellent water purchase with each kick stroke (i think a reduced toe angle is the shortfall of many fin designs).

Penetrator fins« on: August 02, 2010, 10:45:11 AM »QuoteI recently tried a set of light 100 % carbon fins made by Larry from Penetrator fins (Larry is a top guy to deal with and I had the fins at my door the day after payment!). My first impressions were that these fins looked like the bomb, but hey, no point looking good if they did not work well. I fitted the fins to a set of Mares razor footpockets and jumped in at a local spot.
To say I was impressed is an understatement! These fins have an excellent snappy response and the progressive flex is distributed along the fin very nicely. I could really feel the carbon 'doing the work' for me during deep dives. This allowed me to safely reduce the recovery periods needed between dives as well as increase the bottom time during dives. These fins have an 83cm overall length (72cm from the bend to the tip) and are a perfect balance between not being too long that they are cumbersome, but long enough to allow a nice sine wave action for efficient finning.
The super light weight of the fins (275gm) and and steep toe angle (around 25 degrees) both help immensely in reducing muscle fatigue and allows excellent water purchase with each kick stroke (i think a reduced toe angle is the shortfall of many fin designs). Being new fins, the only aspect I cannot yet comment on is their durability, but they look very well constructed and I am sure they will last me many more dives.

Hi Larry, Thank you for your e-mail. I am loving the fins, I have had 8 or 10 dives in them now. I had one dive in my old fins and could not believe the difference! I have had a couple fellow divers give them a try and you may be receiving some more orders!

Gday Larry, Had a great four days diving with the fins, they really were fantastic. After 4 days of diving I was nowhere near as tired as usual and was able to do longer dives much easier than before. The fins are effortless and even when I tested to see how fast I could swim there was little load on my muscles and could move a lot quicker than anticipated.

I bought myself a new pair of Penetrator medium Blue Camo with omer stingray pockets. One of the best decisions I have made. I used to use Cressi Gara Pros with hard blades and I have used dive-Rs, rob Allen Cutas and Piccaso speeds, but thought it was time for something new. So I started researching different fins and a friend and dive buddy of mine suggested these. He went from dive-R mediums to red camo penetrator mediums and loved them. So I contacted Larry about purchasing these fins. He was very informative and really knew what he was talking about. A+ customer service and got the fins to me very quickly.
I have so far only used them once on a trip out into some deep water hunting mackerel. I jumped in and instantly felt the more power from these fins. They had almost no wear on my ankles even after a hard days diving which my other fins would do after about an hour. Furthermore the thing I really liked about these fins are that the more effort I put out the more power I received. We dived all day in 22m+ and I had no problem getting some good bottom time even though lately I haven’t been able to breathe up so well, hopefully with these fins I will get back in shape. I then started trying out new things with the fins while hunting these mackerel so I thought I'll try some dolphin kicks. Took me only three dolphin kicks to get down to 14.8m according to my Suunto d4. Also diving in strong currents all day I had no problem swimming very fast against it and even while hanging of the mermaid line, many times my fins would scrape along the rough rope which normally would scratch fins. When I got home and cleaned and let my blades dry I inspected them. Not a single scratch on either side.
If you’re looking for new fins I would highly suggest these. Top fins, top service.
Cheers for reading and happy diving,

After using several different types of fins over the years I've finally found fins that are great to say the least! The soft composites, combined with the Mares Razor footpockets and the increased fin angle have greatly reduced leg muscle fatigue to next to zero. Quick snappy response, very light, great thrust and no fin side slip make them great fins. The Kevlar fins I recently got are another example of an excellent product. Comfortable, light weight with great thrust for inshore shallow dives or in the wash.
Great Australian made fins, and a top person to deal with!
I'd recommend anyone to give them a go, you won't be disappointed! Thanks Larry!

Gday Larry,Just thought I'd let you know that I'm loving my new setup. Blade/pocket combo has a much nicer flex to it than the stingray/diveR combo I was running before. Less fatigue, and seems like a little less effort for more output either surface finning or on descent/ascent. Happy days
