FOUNDER
Larry Gray the Founder of Penetrator Fins has been involved in the composites industry for over 30 years, specialising in providing high quality advanced composite manufacturing to the marine industry. Being involved with projects such as the Volvo Ocean Race, Inter-pacific 14 foot skiff championships, numerous National and International sailing campaigns he has the experience and skills required to provide the highest quality marine composites. These skills have been applied to the design and manufacture of Penetrator fin blades and is backed by over 75 years of combined spearfishing experience to develop the final designs you see today. The blades have undergone the most rigorous testing that ANY brand can offer, they were not released to the market until its developers and testers were 110% satisfied.
CCMS
Penetrator blades are manufactured using a proprietary Capillary Closed Molding System (CCMS). This system is a culmination of 25 years’ composites manufacturing experience applied to fin blade development over the past 8 years by Penetrator Fins founder Larry Gray. The process eliminates the requirement for secondary processing materials used by other manufacturers producing an outstanding surface finish on both sides of the blade and reduces waste. These 2 outcomes alone produce a blade with a smoother flex curve and reduces the environmental footprint of the manufacturing process.
KEVLAR REINFORCED BLADE TIPS
Penetrator Carbon Fiber blades receive a protective layer of Kevlar 49 multi-axial reinforcement in the tip of the blade to prevent chips and cracking. This system is unique to Penetrator blades. Kevlar is an extremely resilient and flexible material providing added impact resistance while allowing full flexibility of the blade tip.
DUAL ACTION WATER CHANNEL RAILS
Penetrator Fin’s proprietary Australian Made EDPM water rail is then added with cyanoacrylate adhesive in purposed built pneumatic clamping jigs. This rail allows for greater control over water flow. The rail combines a “T” section to lock into the foot pocket and a water channeling section to guide water along the blade for increased efficiency and elimination of fin “wobble”.
BLADE PROFILES
Penetrator currently offers two fin profiles; the standard dimension long fins which are 72cm x 19cm and the shorter P620 version fins which measure 62cm x 19cm. Refer to our FIN STIFFNESS GUIDE to help you select the ideal blade and stiffness rating for your body type and intended use.
